The step down DC/DC voltage regulator is perfect for lowering the voltage of a power supply to the appropriate voltage for a small circuit or electronic device such as an Arduino.
In a model railway application this voltage regulator can be used to supply a 5V device with power from a common 12V bus running underneath of a layout.
